Child Identity to Adult Identity

Children are artists, without awareness. Children are musicians, without awareness. Children are athletes without awareness. Children are writers, without awareness. Children are multifaceted, without awareness. This could be overarching, though I can almost guarantee that for a certain amount of time for a child their identities are not the most important thing in their life. That they move through their days from one thing to the next for the search of joy in their next adventure. Though I believe there is so much pressure from our elders and certain elders are pushing harder than others. Then little baby bots start coming to class with all this perfectionism and sharp words that they are not artists, that playing music is dumb unless you are good, that everyday must be devoted to practicing sports ,so you can make it far in life. The list goes on. It is wild. Children are rarely identified as an artist, social changer, musician, craftsman, athlete, etc. Children are labeled as students, learners, and children.

We grow up and we overcome certain labels that we grew to hate or love and we realize where we are more gifted in certain areas and not in others. Then we learn more deficits. They create an identity completely on something that we feel makes us, us. When it usually is something that is temporary. A fleeting moment in time as the all star academic, business person, football captain, etc etc. Then at some point that identity fades or changes and identity crumbles. So what is the lasting identity from a place of Truth. We are all of these things at different levels, abilities, and degrees throughout life. Therefore, the only thing that really stays through all the change is, you. You are the catalyst through which you experience all the different things and information to then commute into an understanding or a computation that you have created to mean that this is who you are.

You are the boat. The art you have created, music made, scores gained, money made, grades earned are the components within the water. The water and everything within it are always in contact with the boat. Sometimes something comes and bumps into the boat and changes the course of your life. You as the boat are taking all the lessons you’ve learned and are learning on the way and carrying it to the next destination or destinations.

Who got something out of this? What was it? Please share.
